Cornerstone

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Create a new "Cornerstone for Git" application

Several other people have said the same, but as comments on other slightly different suggestions... I have just been forced to transition from SVN to Git, and won't be able to use Cornerstone anymore. I have road-tested several other apps, and none of them come close to Cornerstone's power and usability.

Since nobody else seems to "get it", I am left hoping that somehow Zennaware will find the time and resources to create a new app to support Git (as opposed to forcing Git support into Cornerstone, which I believe would be a mistake). I for one would buy it…

    • xcode 8.3.2 can not work with cornerstone

Recently i updated my Xcode to 8.3.2, and i found it require subversion 1.9.x. So every time i open a project in version control it will show something like “your working copy version is too low, call ’svn upgrade’….. blablabla “, i did it. But cornerstone will show info in attachment file when i open Cornerstone. That means there is always a client can not work normally.

      • Discover all working copies in parent folder

All of my working copies are in a single parent folder. I have lots of them and things are continually changing. Instead of adding each individual working copy, I would rather point at a parent folder and have all my working copies discovered from there.

        • Refer to other Commits/Revisions in commit messages

I often refer to other commits by mentioning their revision number in commit messages. Like we can do when having the Issue Tracking set up, I'd love to see "commit 3526" beeing converted to an link that displays that long entry.

          • Quickly access files shown in the log

In the log viewer provide the possibility to directly
            1) "Reveal in <file_name> in the repository" and
            2) "Reveal <file_name> in Finder"
for an added or modified file.

These options could, for example, appear when right clicking on an added or modified file shown in the log.

            • add a "load all" button to the log view.

In TortiseSVN, I frequently load all the revisions in to the log view so I can quickly filter across all them to find every instance where a given string is used in a commit message or a given file is modified. This is very useful, since for busy repositories even a recent change could easily be 10 pages back when you have to press "load next 50 changes" each time to get more results. Filtering on these results in empty search results until you hit the button those 10 times. Being able to quickly load all of the revisions would…

              • Use "svn log --use-merge-history" for logview

You say on your website that Cornerstone offers "TOTAL RECALL" in the log view. However, you are not showing any of the merge history.

According to one of your pages (https://www.zennaware.com/cornerstone/helpbook/pages/introduction/terminology/merging.html) this is because "there is no need for users to inspect [...] their contents".

That's a very weird statement, since (1) svn provides the ability so there must be some use of it, (2) TurtoiseSVN also allows the user the view it, and (3) *I* would like to see it.

Now your log view definitely *does not* provide "TOTAL RECALL", since you are hiding all the log…

When updating files past 12 AM the time modified displays as tomorrow instead of displaying the actual time. Can you look into this?

                    • Allow per minute interval for Repository change summary

It is only possible to monitor 5, 10 or 30 minutes. I would like to have freedom to configure this per minute.

                      • Display number of updated files waiting on the server in Dock

As the number is already displayed in http://zennaware.uservoice.com/forums/6726-cornerstone/suggestions/353171-display-number-of-updated-files-waiting-on-the-ser
it would be a nice to have to show this number also in the dock (together with the number of files changed)

                          • Warning/Informing dialog box for Resolve button

I work on two machines which sit next to each other.
While I was checking files in conflict, I checked SVN state on my other machine. While moving my hands, it touched Apple Magic Mouse, and it unfortunately clicked the Resolve button. Immediately I recognized it but there was no way to see the conflict file list anymore, because they are all marked as resolved.

For any kind of interaction which would introduce major changes or destruction, there should be a dialog box which says what it will do and ask users if he/she really want to do that.

                            • "Compare with base" feature in Commit window.

Compare with base preview would be very usable feature in Commint window next to "Log message". It would be super great to be able review changes of a file at the same time when filling Log Message for a commit. Now I have to write changes text in an external TextEditor and copy it later in Log Message field, because I cant access compare feature in commit window.

                                • Add support to run script from the toolbar and context menus

There is support when committing and and after ignore? I think it is. It seems so simple it could be added to the toolbar. I use rsync to keep a mirror of the files updated without the ".svn". Be so cool to run it when I want. Also the output from the script should be in the timeline.

                                  • Fix dialogs that use it's instead of its. It's = it is.

Fix dialogs that use it's instead of its. It's = it is.

In the SVN upgrade to 1.8 dialog, Cornerstone states, "Would you like to upgrade the working copy or keep it at it's current version."

Since it's = it is, this means "Would you like to upgrade the working copy or keep it at it is current version."

Please correct the English in this dialog.

                                    • Cache large working copy information

The timeline view is awesome. But, we work with a giant working copy (>100,000 files and >40,000 revisions). This makes Cornerstone really slow since it has to repeatedly receive "log items" for each of these revisions. Seems like you could cache this data in some fast internal representation since history does not normally change.

                                      • Use the specified external diff tool when double-clicking on a file during commit

If you have an external diff tool specified, when you are looking at the Changed view and double-click on a file, the external tool is used to show the diff.

But once you start to commit one or more files, double-clicking on a file no longer uses your external diff tool. It uses the built-in diff tool and you have to right-click and choose "Compare with Last Update using [tool]" for each file.

                                        • make the active and inactive selected state colors more discernable from one another

i work as one of the leaders for a design group with 50+ designers that all use Cornerstone. I am constantly coaching and reminding the other designers on my team that they need to make sure that the item in their working copies section is selected before they try to pull updates. the issue is that the colors being used for the focused selected state (http://cl.ly/image/0R3M211g3E2y) and unfocused selected state (http://cl.ly/image/2U3r2n1J1c1o) are so close together that your users often think they have the item selected, then they are confused why its not pulling updates down.
